Celebrating Women in Tech with Monica Kosuru

Monica Kosuru, Regional Head of NeuraFlash India & avid advocate for women in the tech space, sits down with us to reflect on Women’s History Month and women empowerment in the workplace!

Every year, Women’s History Month incorporates a theme chosen by the National Women’s History Alliance. This year’s theme, “Providing Healing, Promoting Hope”, honors women across cultures & generations who have provided both healing & hope,  & acknowledge the ongoing efforts of caregivers & frontline workers during the pandemic!

In celebration, we chatted with Monica Kosuru, Regional Head of NeuraFlash India & avid advocate for women in the tech space, to share what Women’s History Month means to her. We also spoke about her biggest inspiration, what qualities she believes makes a great leader & what advice she would give to women in the tech space.

Q: What does Women’s History Month mean to you?

A chance to celebrate the contributions of trailblazing women.

“First off, I don't want to confine myself to celebrating just the month of March, but I would definitely utilize the month to its core to thank & acknowledge every individual who inspired me to become myself.

Each one of us should celebrate Women’s History Month to remind ourselves of the accomplishments women have made throughout the years to the STEM world, culture, & society.

I love the theme for 2022 (based on the National Women’s History Alliance) that, ‘this year, in particular, we are reminded of the importance of healers & caregivers who are helping to promote & sustain hope for the future.’”

Q: What does the phrase 'empowered women’ mean to you, & how do you live this in your daily life?

‘Empowerment’ can mean different things to different people.

“I feel each of us needs to be empowered to achieve different things in life & it should be ongoing. We come across challenging situations in our personal, professional, & social life, & it’s important to know who we are & what values we would like to stick to.”

Principles Monica follows in her daily life include:

  • Building self-confidence
  • Getting out of her comfort zone
  • Performing duty with discipline
  • Constantly learning & educating herself
  • Lending a hand in helping others grow

Q: What qualities make a great leader?

  1. An unshakeable belief in oneself
  2. Honesty, transparency, & clarity of vision
  3. Passion
  4. Willingness to learn & receive feedback
  5. Accountability
  6. Willingness to question the status quo

Q: Who inspires you & why?

Monica’s biggest inspiration: her grandmother.

“She always felt that she should serve the poor & take care of their education & medical needs. She went out to serve humanity in all aspects of her capacity. She was righteous & self-confident about the work she took up, & she knew that “change” should start from her. She continues to inspire me to this day whenever I think about the traits she portrayed throughout her life. My grandma is my role model!”

Q: What drew you to work at NeuraFlash?

An honest, transparent, & open culture.

“NeuraFlash values its employees, & they listen to you!”

“I’m so glad that I made the decision to join this valuable organization that puts employees first!”

“The concept I believe in is, when you have leadership that comes with strong values & principles, things will automatically fall into place, regardless of the interim challenges & setbacks one could face.”

Q: What is something you wish you would have known early in your career?

Guidance plays an important role in everyone's career.

“Fortunately, I came across people (whom I call mentors or advocates now) at every role I took on. My focus was always on converting challenges into opportunities & finding mentors who could share honest feedback about the shortcomings & how I could improve. It wasn’t always that easy to find such people, trust me!”

Q: What piece of advice would you give to women in tech?

Take a step forward & bring in the change.

“It could be as simple as influencing a little girl’s thoughts & building self-confidence for someone who is interested in STEM.”

Give back to the community.

“The power of contribution is immense, & we all will definitely enjoy the love we would get back from this awesome WIT, WWC, & Lightning Ladies community.”

Thank you Monica for sharing your stories to celebrate Women’s History Month. Cheers to you, and all of the women in tech!
